Celebrated over ten days, Onam is known for its colorful Pookalam (flower arrangements), Onasadya (traditional feast), Vallamkali (boat races), music, dance, and unity among people of all communities. It's complemented by the sumptuous Onam Sadya feast, traditional dances, boat races, and cultural performances that unify people in celebration.

Symbols like Pookalam, feasts (Onasadya), cultural performances, and games bring communities together in lasting harmony and joy. Legend of King Mahabali & Values He Symbolizes Onam centers around the mythology of King Mahabali, a demon king known for his justice, humility, and generosity. He ruled during a golden age where equality and welfare prevailed. Lord Vishnu, in his Vamana avatar, tested Mahabali's devotion. Impressed by the king’s integrity, Vishnu granted him the boon of returning to his kingdom annually. Onam marks that annual homecoming. 2. Harvest Festival & Gratitude Falling in Chingam (August–September in the Malayalam calendar), Onam celebrates the bountiful harvest after the monsoon. It’s a season of thankfulness, with communities giving thanks to the land and nature’s blessings. 3. Unity and Cultural Harmony Onam transcends religious and social boundaries—it is celebrated by people of all communities. It symbolizes Kerala's spirit of inclusiveness and communal harmony, bringing families and communities together. 4.
