BASIC SAFETY TRAINING (BST) COURSE – INCLUDING PRACTICALS

Training Structure

As per Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) guidelines, the course is completed through three mandatory stages:

1. DGS E-Learning Modules
2. Physical Classroom Training at PMA
3. DGS Online Exit Examination

Course Details

Course Name: Basic Safety Training (BST) – Including Practicals

Duration: 11 Days

Required Documents

1. Passport
2. 10th Mark Sheet or STCW Certificate
3. DG Shipping Approved ILO Medical Certificate
4. Completed DGS E-Learning Modules

Note: All documents must be uploaded in PDF format and should be less than 1 MB in size.

Practical Training Requirements

Candidates must bring:

1. Boiler Suit
2. Safety Shoes

If unavailable, these items can be purchased at the PMA campus.

Course Completion Process

Step 1: DGS E-Learning

Candidates must complete the mandatory online learning modules through the DGS-approved portal before attending physical classes.

Step 2: Physical Classes

Attendance is compulsory for all classroom and practical sessions conducted at PMA.

Step 3: DGS Exit Exam

After successfully completing the E-Learning and Physical Training, candidates must appear for the DGS Online Exit Examination.

1. Exam fee is payable separately.
2. Candidates will receive up to three attempts to clear the examination.
3. Failure to pass within the permitted attempts may require re-enrolment in the course.

Exit Examination

The first attempt of the DGS Exit Exam must be taken immediately after course completion at the PMA Exam Hall. Certificates will be issued only after successful completion of all required procedures.

1. Personal Survival Techniques (PST) - 6111
2. Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FPFF) - 6121
3. Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (PSSR) - 6141
4. Elementary First Aid (EFA) - 6131

Facial Verification Requirement

Candidates must ensure that their photo and signature are updated in their Seafarer Profile, as these will be used for attendance verification and certification.

1. Size: 1.5 cm × 3.5 cm

Dress Code

All candidates must maintain a professional appearance during the training period.

For Gents: Formal attire is mandatory.

For Ladies: Chudi or formal attire is mandatory.

Candidates not following the dress code may not be permitted to attend classes.

Important Notes

1. Course schedules are tentative and may change based on DGS or Government directives.
2. A booking confirmation email containing further instructions will be sent after successful registration.

Eligibility

This course is open to individuals who wish to pursue a career and serve onboard merchant ships in any capacity.

INDOS Number is Mandatory for course enrollment.

Important Note

Candidates who do not have an INDOS Number are advised to visit the academy 1–2 days before the course commencement date to complete INDOS registration and other required formalities.
