Terms of Enrollment
Everything you need to know about joining Pondicherry Maritime Academy as a Cadet.
Candidate Eligibility
Before applying for enrollment at PMA, cadets must ensure they meet the standard Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) guidelines:
- Educational Qualification: Must have passed 10th/12th/Degree as per the specific course requirement with the mandatory percentage in English.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be within the age bracket specified for each course (typically 17.5 to 25 years) as of the course commencement date.
- Nationality: Open to Indian Nationals with valid proof of identity.
Mandatory Documentation
For a successful enrollment, the following documents must be submitted in original for verification:
- Original Educational Mark sheets and Passing Certificates.
- Valid Passport (Mandatory for all CDC-linked courses).
- Aadhaar Card (Linked with a valid mobile number for DGS E-Migrate).
- Recent passport-sized photographs in white background and formal shirt.
- INDOS Number: If previously generated, must be provided during registration.
Admission & Fee Policy
Enrollment is confirmed only upon the successful verification of documents and payment of the admission fee.
Note: The admission fee is non-refundable once the INDOS number or batch seat has been blocked in the DGS system.
PMA reserves the right to cancel an enrollment if any document provided is found to be forged or if the candidate fails to report on the commencement date without prior written notice.
Discipline & Code of Conduct
Maritime training requires high levels of discipline. By enrolling, the cadet agrees to:
- Maintain 100% attendance in both theory and practical simulator sessions.
- Strictly follow the Academy's uniform code and grooming standards.
- Abstain from any form of ragging, which is a strictly prohibited and punishable offense.
- Respect Academy property and adhere to safety protocols during fire-fighting and sea-survival drills.
Medical Fitness Declaration
All cadets must be medically fit as per the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules.
- A valid certificate from a DGS-approved medical practitioner is required.
- Candidates must have 6/6 eyesight (unaided or aided as per course) and no color blindness.
- Any pre-existing medical conditions must be declared during the enrollment process.
